Ever wondered what would happen if Santa Claus got kidnapped? Well, that’s exactly what “Red One” dives into. Santa, also known as Red One, is snatched away from his cozy life at the North Pole by some scary commando group. Now, with Christmas right around the corner and everyone counting on him, things aren’t looking good.
But don’t worry! Santa’s got a bodyguard—this tough guy who isn’t quite ready to retire yet. Played by the big guy Dwayne Johnson (yep, The Rock), this bodyguard teams up with a super-smart hacker. Together, they might just crack the mystery of who’s behind this whole kidnapping plot and where they’re keeping old Saint Nick.
The movie kicks off in a fun way, showing J.K. Simmons’ Santa hanging out at a mall taking those adorable kiddo photos before getting swept away by some secretive special forces team—because apparently even Santa needs that kind of protection! It’s kinda like he’s the President or something!
The start hooks you with this wild concept that there’s actually an agency making sure all these mythical worlds keep running smoothly—including Santa’s gig. Things are going well until BAM—the chaos of unveiling secret identities kicks in and it gets pretty messy fast.
Alright, so here’s the deal: “Uno Rosso” kicks off with a big ol’ mystery—someone snatched Santa Claus! You’ve got Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson playing Callum Drift, who’s on the case to figure out who did it. He tracks down a hacker that spilled the beans about where Santa’s been hiding: under an invisible dome at the North Pole.
Then we’ve got Chris Evans as Jack O’Malley, this cheeky guy who ends up in an awkward team-up with Callum. Naturally, they can’t stand each other at first because they’re total opposites. But you know how these things go—they start warming up to each other while trying to save Christmas together.
Oh, and there’s more drama with Jack’s family life thrown in. He’s got these issues connecting with his teenage kid and even misses a critical exam his son really cared about—I mean, talk about dropping the ball as a dad.
On top of all this personal growth stuff, the movie hits you with its comedy vibe without truly being just funny. It’s mostly focused on action-packed chases and sequences. Sometimes things slow down for long chats between Callum and Jack—not exactly what you’d call electric chemistry there.
Though it’s supposed to be about saving Santa, the movie mostly shifts its spotlight elsewhere—particularly toward Santa’s stepbrother instead! Weird twist but hey, that’s movie magic for ya.
So, this movie is all about Krampus, you know, the creature from German folklore? But it doesn’t really stick to that classic Christmas vibe. The magic feels kinda off because it’s a super techy film. It’s like trying to watch those warm and cozy holiday movies but the feeling comes and goes—like a finicky light bulb flickering on and off.
Most of the magical creatures are these reindeer who are oddly referred to as “girls,” making them pretty much the only female presence in a movie filled with guys. Santa’s wife doesn’t get much screen time. There’s also Lucy Liu, who just can’t escape her usual martial arts role, and poor Kiernan Shipka barely gets any spotlight at all. It’s definitely one of those films where you feel like turning down the high-tech stuff to let some genuine Christmas spirit shine through.
